A wild flaxen chestnut horse grazes in the warm sunshine of Assateague Island's woodland meadows. Between the ocean facing salt marshes, maritime forests and briny backwater lagoons characteristic of barrier island like Chincoteague and the Outer Banks, feral horses have made their home in a unique habitat.
